Earn College Credit
Did you know you can earn college credit at Augustana College for working at camp this summer? You can earn up to three credits by enrolling for one, two or all three 1-credit workshop courses. Your cost is only $25/credit hour (Lutherans Outdoors and Augustana are coving the rest of the tuition costs).
The following courses will be offered, based on the material that all staff will cover during the two-week staff training:
- Religion 359 - Sharing One's Faith
Sharing One's Faith will examine how Lutheran Christians understand scripture. Participants will explore and practiced teaching methods for use with youth in small group Bible study as well as ways to share one's faith through the rhythm of daily life.
- Education/Psychology 359 - Experiential Learning in a Camp Setting
Students will discover how to work with youth & adults in large and small group settings. An emphasis will be placed on understanding individual and cultural differences. Practical experience in conflict management will be offered.
- Physical Education 359 - Health and Education in an Outdoor Setting
Students will learn the necessary skills for safe camping, including risk management, first aid and CPR. They will learn how to involve campers in outdoor recreation activities such as canoeing, horsemanship, backpacking and biking. These activities will vary from site to site.
A 2-page reflective paper will be required for each course at the end of the summer. Registration and payment of fees will take place during the first week of staff training.
NOTE for non-Augustana students: It is recommended that you check with your school registrar to see if these credits are transferable.
